Kidist Bayelign is an Ethiopian female film director and writer. Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Kidist received her B.A. in Psychology from Addis Ababa University. As a student, she became involved in the art of filmmaking as an actress. She appeared on local television commercials and played the leading role in YeLot Shishit . Later she moved behind the cameras, and is the scriptwriter, producer, and director of Hiwote Endewaza and EtseBeles (Tree of Knowledge). Her first film, Hiwot Endewaza, was about the lives of Ethiopian women in Middle East. Her Second Movie, EtseBelese, is a film about Ethiopian immigrants' experience in the United States. Etsebeles examines the struggle of four ethiopian immigrants lives in the united states, reflecting various social Problems that thousands of Ethiopians are facing today in north America. Home sickness, lack of legal documents , unemployment, depression and stress drive immigrants to addiction, homlesness and petty crime. Her films are commended for their focus on often-overlooked social and cultural issues within Ethiopian community. Her Latest movie "Acrooss The Atlantic" will be premier in Ethiopia as well as Europe,Canada,Usa.on the new year of 2012.
