What is a Movie Producer?

A film producer or movie producer is someone who creates the scenes and conditions for making movies. The producer initiates, co-ordinates, supervises and controls matters such as fund-raising, hiring key personnel and arranging for distributors. The producer is involved throughout all phases of the film-making process from development to completion of a project.

In the first half of the 20th century, the producer also tended to wield ultimate creative control on a film project. In the U.S., with the demise of Hollywood's studio system in the 1950s, creative control began to shift into the hands of the director.

Changes in movie and film distribution and marketing in the 1970s and '80s gave rise to the modern-day phenomenon of the Hollywood blockbuster, which tended to bring power back into the hands of the producer. While marketing and advertising for films accentuates the role of the director, apart from a few well-known film-makers, it is usually the producer who has the greatest degree of control in the American film industry

STEP 1:

CHOOSE A MOVIE

I Made A Movie takes you behind the scenes for the full movie-making experience. As an Associate Producer you are part of the process. And like all producers, your movie-making adventure begins by selecting the right project. Click on The Movies Guide link and you will find information on several film projects:



Genre -- Tells you what kind of movie it will be, such as drama, comedy, sci-fi, thriller, horror, romance, etc.
Synopsis of the script -- You have to know what the movie is about.
Director's Bio -- Find out what they've done and who they are.
Expected MPAA Rating (G, PG, PG-13, R) -- You want to know the appropriate audience for your movie.

Once you've decided on your film it's time for you to purchase your membership in our easy to use shopping cart. Follow the easy steps and complete a successful check out.

 

STEP 2:

RECEIVE YOUR ITEMS

In the check out process you will create your authentic username and password for accessing the "Member's Only" section of the Producer's Lounge.

 

You'll also get:

Certificate(frame included for an extra fee) - declaring you to be an Associate Producer
DVD(upon completion of the movie) - with your name in the credits
Apparel - a t-shirt telling the world "I Made A Movie"

STEP 3:

CONNECT WITH THE DIRECTOR, CAST AND CREW

As an Associate Producer you are granted access to the "Member's Only" section of the Producer's Lounge, where you will connect with the Director, the crew and cast. You will receive insight into the project from the Director and some things to watch for as production begins. The Producer's Lounge will be the place for you to get the inside scoop on what's going on with your movie.

You get to go behind the scenes and view raw footage direct from the set as the movie is being made. Talk with the Director, Cast and Crew, through live chat and video, to help give direction on the outcome of the film. Help vote on cast members, style, location, and which script gets the green light.

Your input helps shape and mold the way the movie is created!
 

STEP 4:

PARTICIPATE IN THE ACTION

You get a real Insider's View because you are part of the action from the moment you join. You will have the opportunity to help decide pre-production issues and much more. For example, casting: taped auditions of several actors being considered for a particular role will be posted, and you can vote on which one you think will be the best.

Once shooting begins, you will receive production updates directly from the set which will keep you constantly in the loop...just like a good producer should be. You'll really get a handle on how it's going when you view raw footage of the day's filming which gives you a great perspective on how movies are really made.

In the Producer's Lounge you can participate as much, or as little, as you'd like and at the time of your choosing. All information will be made available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

 

STEP 5:

PROMOTING & UPDATES

Once your movie is finished, you will still be part of the I Made A Movie team. Updates let you stay connected with our upcoming movies. You can see some of the productions you heard about in the Producer's Lounge. Or you might get involved in a brand new project! Of course, you also will want to Promote Your Movie. Tell your friends through social media, build a big wave of support, and bask in the glow as you proudly tell your friends and family...I Made A Movie!
